The weather in Melness can be extremely variable and the North Coast can be subject to sudden storms even in the height of summer. Having said that the weather can be beautiful for long periods due to the gulf stream. It moves warm water from the Gulf of Mexico north into the Atlantic and eventually flows up the western side of Scotland, keeping the sea temperate and the climate mild, but with a great deal of moisture in the air.

About Melness and the Website

Scottish Map

This website was set up in 2005 with the idea of telling the Story of Melness and its people through the ages. Melness has an interesting social history that deserves to be told. This website will always be a work in progress as there is so much material pertaining to Melness and the various small townships that make up the Village.

I hope you like the new design which will allow for larger pictures and more flexibility for video and slideshows etc. Please be patient as the existing pages are modified.
